At the time this article was written, “remission” and “type 2 diabetes” rarely, if ever appeared in the same article or sentence. There was no definition as once a person developed type 2 diabetes, it was regarded as irreversible. This paper, documented a phenomenon, that after gastric bypass the marker of hypergylemia regressed to normal in many patients and that using a combination of HbA1C, fasting blood glucose and medication status we could in fact model and predict remission.
